Stephan van Hoof

Stephan has been working on membrane applications for most of his professional career. After developing the beer filtration application in the late nineties in cooperation with Heineken, his attention at Norit X-Flow quickly shifted towards water and wastewater treatment. As a technology manager, R&D director and Product management director he was part of the team that helped the company grow to become one of the leading ultrafiltration players for large scale water treatment, leading to GWI’s Technology Company of the Year award in 2011.

Stephan stepped in as CEO for Blue Foot Membranes in 2020, to help the ambitious start-up and spin-out of the Belgian research institute VITO become a rapidly growing scale-up company. Blue Foot brings a unique, truly backwashable flat sheet ultrafiltration membrane to market, specifically for membrane bioreactor applications. Blue Foot’s proposition promises the most reliable and robust operation, at the lowest Total Cost of Ownership, which is demonstrated by the 30+ full scale MBR’s equipped with Blue Foot’s membrane modules and executed with various partner OEM’s.
