Biography
Matt Simpson is the CEO of Typhon Treatment. He obtained his PhD from the University of Newcastle, and has gained over 15 years of experience in civil and environmental engineering. Matt co-founded EPD UK, a specialist engineering consultancy that went from concept to the international marketplace in just three years, before spending time as an engineering consultant in Africa where he met fellow Typhon founder Peter McNulty. While working on a community scale water treatment project in Nigeria and looking for a low cost, easy to maintain, disinfection solution, Matt and Peter started to explore UV LED as a concept. Seeing that no system was available on the scale needed, they founded Typhon in 2014 to create one. Starting, literally, from Matt’s kitchen table, within 4 years Typhon had developed the world’s first USEPA Validated UV LED Reactor, and two years later installed the world’s first commercial, municipal scale UV LED Disinfection system, treating almost 30,000m3/day of drinking water for United Utilities in the UK.
