Gavin Van Tonder

Gavin van Tonder originally hails from South Africa where he started his career as a Process Chemical Engineer working for Sasol Oil Company. In 1989 he joined Schlumberger Oilfield Services in South Africa and has worked and lived in Italy, Scotland, Singapore, Vietnam, India, China, UK, Australia and Malaysia in the Oil, Gas, Electricity and Water Industries. Gavin started in the Water industry in 2001 as Asia Pacific Vice President, and in 2010 was transferred to Itron HQ in France as the Global Marketing and Systems Vice President for Itron Water and Heat. In 2013 Gavin was made President of Itron Water Dvision in France and was transferred to Austin, Texas in 2016. Gavin has more than 17 years global experience in the Water industry and has worked with Water Utilities around the globe, providing solutions, systems and products to enhance their efficiency. In 2018 Gavin was approached to join NEOM as the Water Sector Head to develop the greenfield water infrastructure from desalination with 100% zero liquid discharge, through to a Smart IoW network, and full reuse of treated wastewater, including preservation of storm water runoff.
